very hit-and-miss
There are several great tracks on this disc. The rest are an assortment of decent but forgettable tracks, and mediocre songs that sound like covers of any of the hundred utterly average rock bands one sees on MTV these days. Enjoyable disc overall, but only about 1/4 of it sounds like The Offspring to me. 2008-07-10

Classic
This is a release that is classic Offpring! Going back to the days of Ixnay on the Hombre & Smash!

You're Gonna Go Far kid
This cd is awesome. I own all of the Offspring's cds and I felt that this cd really just brought back my old feelings for the Offspring, when I first became a fan back when Smash came out. I like the fact that they are really trying some different sounds and have some more diversity to their music. Unfortunately, I am in Afghanistan but hopefully I can make a concert of theirs for this cd when I get home.
Great CD!

What I Was Looking For
There are many different ways to begin to review a CD but, for some reason, I can't get past one single word running through my head when I think of "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace": epic.
As I'm sitting and typing at this moment I've come to realize what makes me come to that word. Have you ever heard a song that connected to your emotions so accurately and your feeling at that moment so perfectly that you thought 'I knew I was going to hear this song some day'? The songs "Hammerhead" and "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" are did that to me. They're the type of songs that you want to sing loudly along with while driving down the interstate with the windows down. Well, at least I do.
Another stand out song for me is "Stuff Is So Messed Up". The song takes an amusing approach at stating several truths about the our current state and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it the first time.
I'm no expert in music. At the moment I only own about 50 CDs compared to the hardcore music fanatics whose collections reach the hundreds. I couldn't give you any information on them beyond the group and the names of the songs either, where others know such trivial information as the names of every grandmother of the members of every band they have a CD of (or something equally ridiculous). However I know what kind of music I like and this CD definitely has it.
On a side note, I thought the inside cover artwork for this CD was perfect for the sound of it all.

A Very Solid CD
As I sit here listening to this cd for about the tenth time, it still sounds brand new. This is the best cd 'The Offspring' have recorded since 'Ixnay'. Some reviewers have compared some riffs from this cd to Coldplay and Green Day, saying that they are rip offs. To them I say, are you aware how many f***ing songs are out there? (every single song ever written has another song that sounds similar) This cd is very original and I don't see Coldplay or Green Day at all. There is something for everyone (power ballads, punk tracks, pop punk songs, even a dance rock song) To me, it's like they took their discography and picked two or three of their best songs from each cd and compiled this one. Very very solid cd, and to the reviewer that said they sound like sell outs, how old are you? How old are the offspring? You can't be singing about drugs, killing your girlfriend, and road rage when you've got a wife and kids. There is a difference between selling out and growing up, blink 182 did the same thing. And whoever said Dexter sounds like Weird Al, I agree. 2008-07-04
