Alright
This product arrived in good condition and in a timely manner. Wasn't really impressed with the music on there. But it seems to have all the songs on the movie. Just wished there wasn't a repeat of the same song in there.

Great hummable music!
I love this CD and play it ad nauseum. Then I play it again. I like it better than the film it came from. I don't care about the singers, but they are all terrific. It's the music and arrangements that are spectacular! Feel good music!
All of the music is catchy, hummable, and even if you wanted to you can't get it out of your head. Great ear worms!

one great big awesome soundtrack
The CD soundtrack to the movie musical Hairspray does not disappoint! It's jammed full with great music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman; and there's plenty of 1960s pep to please anyone who liked the movie.

The CD starts with the opening number "Good Morning Baltimore" sung perfectly by Nikki Blonsky. Nikki sings beautifully and the musical arrangement uses percussion, piano, guitars and strings to make this a stunning and memorable tune. The backup vocalists harmonize to perfection, too. Zac Efron sings "It takes Two" flawlessly with a great backup chorus; Zac sings with excellent diction and this bolsters his performance. The musical arrangement has a distinct early `60s pop flavor with percussion, piano and guitars to make it all come alive. Moreover, listen for Nikki Blonsky to perform "I Can Hear The Bells." This romantic tune sparkles as Nikki sings beautifully. The strings, percussion and electric guitars make the melody all the better, too.

"Welcome To The 60's" starts with dialogue between Edna Turnblad (John Travolta) and Nikki Blonsky as Edna's daughter Tracy Turnblad. When Nikki breaks into song this number really takes flight! The backup choir harmonizes perfectly and the musical arrangement uses the strings well. The little bit of banter back and forth between Edna and Tracy helps the song along, too.

If you REALLY want a show stopping number, listen for Queen Latifah belting out "Big, Blonde And Beautiful." Queen Latifah is perfectly suited for the role of Motormouth Maybelle; and her ability to deliver this so darn well proves she can really steal the show. The reprise of "Big, Blonde And Beautiful" by Michelle Pfeiffer and John Travolta works well, too.

And who would have thought that Christopher Walken could sing? Alright, so maybe he's not Sinatra; but Walken holds his own when he performs "(You're) Timeless To Me." In addition, Queen Latifah comes back to sing a most passionate "I Know Where I've Been." Awesome!

"Without Love" is a stunning number performed by Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky, Elijah Kelley and Amanda Bynes. The arrangement has beautiful chord and tempo changes to make "Without Love" really great. "Come So Far (Got So Far To Go)" rocks well with an upbeat feel; and the album ends strong with "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now." "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now" features Rikki Lake, the original Tracy Turnblad in the John Waters 1988 movie of Hairspray; Marissa Jaret Winokur who played Tracy Turnblad on Broadway and Nikki Blonsky. The three Tracy Turnblads do this number justice!

The CD also comes with links to special interactive features using your computer and the Internet. The artwork is outstanding and the liner notes have all the lyrics and great photos of the characters in Hairspray. Awesome!

When all is said and done, if you like this movie and music by the great Marc Shaiman you owe it to yourself to get this CD soundtrack. Diehard fans will want the two CD edition; but this single CD soundtrack ain't too shabby, either!
