A classic. The album that put Beck on the map. Should be in everyones permanent collection.

This album will make you feel good all over!
About 8 years ago, I purchased Odelay and it eventually made its way to my closet, not to be listened to until a few days ago. I put this album in my stereo and it hasn't left it yet. In my opinion, this is Beck's best work to date, although Guero is pretty good as well. This album is full of catchy beats, crazy (yet cool) sampling, and bizarre lyrics. This is the best place to start if you're new to Beck's music. Listen with an open mind, and you won't be disapointed.

RIGHT, RIGHT... GREAT ALBUM. UMMM DID ANYBODY SEE MY MELLOW GOLD CD?
Beck is great. After all the years I've never got sick of him, There are times in life when you just need some crazy Beck stuff on the stereo. It comes in all forms too. This album is great, no doubt. It won him a grammy didn't it? Come on, Dust Brothers brought the same magic to the table that made BEASTIES PAULS BOUTIQUE a gem, I give them more credit for HIGH FIVE- Which is on almost every party mix I've ever made. And Beck is in full throttle here especially on HOT WAX, LORD ONLY KNOWS, and JACK-ASS. The thing is I am very bored with the rest of this album. Theres so much better stuff. MELLOW GOLD is so great, he made that album on the fly with like no production. ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, is a collection of basement tapes and after years I still can't get enough. I've had all I can stand of tracks like NEW POLLUTION and DEVILS HAIRCUT and if I hear those two turntables and a microphone again, I'm probably gonna YAAAWWWWWWWWWWN, then smash the bag out of my stereo. Beck is a genius, Dust brothers too, they did some excellent work and rightly I'll give the album credit (four stars instead of 5). If you're looking into something that'll hold up though MELLOW GOLD is the most interesting thing I've ever listened too and it's got all of MY favorites anyway. Check that one out. If you've never heard PAULS BOUTIQUE, the second album by Beastie Boys, Check that out too- You'll see all the crazy layered sounds that Dust Brothers produce on a much cooler platform for their skills.

Best CD By Beck!
There are four singles on this CD. They are "Devils Haircut", "Where Its At", "New Pollution", and "Jack-Ass". There are about 8 songs on this CD that are great. Besides those songs some other notables are "Hotwax", "Derelict", "Novacaine", and "Minus" are excellent tracks as well. This CD is like his new one "Guero" and His old one "Mellow Gold" so if you like those two albums you will like this one for sure. The most known song on here would be "Devils Haircut". Overall this is definitely his best work he has accomplished and will be very hard to even match. This is where you should start with listening to Beck.

Cut and Paste Deity
The shape shifting songsmith of the slacker generation really hitr his his stride with 96's "Odelay"and its brilliant scattershot ambitions and deft style twists.

"Mellow Gold"had already been an excellent record but it was mainly folk rock with an extra colourful glazing(for instance"Loser"s sitar)and "Odelay"was the trully defining point in Beck's craft as it fuses, sometimes within the same song, several different genres without sounding forceful and indeed coming across as genuinely charming fun.
