Vinyasa Yoga for the Newbie Yogi

Kimberly Wilson was my first yoga instructor. I love all her work, I am familiar with her practice, voice, style etc, so I really enjoy doing yoga with both her CD's when I am away or when I do not feel like going to the studio. I am not sure though that this is the right CD for an absolute "newbee" who is not familiar with yoga or with Kimberly's yoga. If it were a DVD it might be more suitable. Otherwise, the CD is exactly "as much yoga" as anyone would need -both spiritually and physically. I strongly recommend it.

I have been doing yoga at Kimberly Wilson's studio in DC for a number of years, and I picked up this CD to have something to use at home. It is a very good vinyasa yoga session. However, I would definitely not recommend this to those who have never done yoga before. The pace is pretty fast (in fact faster than the pace in the studio's Level 1 classes), and it seems to assume that the person has practiced yoga before. I would recommend going to around 10 classes before trying this at home -- otherwise, I think it would be pretty frustrating. That said, it goes through a good sequence of asanas. Downsides are (1) it is a little fast paced on a few of the sequences, and (2) I didn't think the music was all that great, especially in the beginning (mostly background piano music). But if you want a good vinyasa practice CD, this fits the bill! Kimberly Wilson is a very good teacher.

Fortunately for those of us who find it tough to stick to a healthy lifestyle, there's Vinyasa Yoga for the Newbie Yogi, the pick-up-and-go yoga studio. Perfect for travel, the office, or wandering spirits, this is the ideal gift for the person who has everything but peace of mind.

I have been doing yoga for over 30years, so I'm not a "newbie", but I wanted a yoga routine that would be comfortable to do. At first, I was a little skeptical of the reviews, because so many of them originated from Washington, D.C., so I thought most of them were her yoga students supporting her. I'm glad I tried it for myself though, because this is a GREAT yoga vinyasa routine, and can easily be altered for different lengths of time; this is a fabulous cd for any level of experience. I downloaded to my iPod nano, so I can take it with me on the road; HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This is by far the best yoga cd that I have purchased for my at home practice. The cd is designed to lead you through a complete practice, but it is split into tracks so that you can tailor your practice based on your time constraints or just on what you feel like doing that day. I loaded this cd into my itunes and will sometimes insert my favorite songs between Kimberly's tracks to extend my practice. I can also take it with me on my ipod when I travel. Kimberly provides perfect reminders for alignment and breath - this is a great cd for anyone who loves to have fun with yoga.
