Downloaded it for free. Not sure I would pay for the whole album
Black Winged Bird is a great little song that I was more than happy to download for free through Amazon's emerging artist free releases. However, it hasn't sold me on "The Cake Sale," in general, so I guess in this case the marketing didn't work. That said, this is a nice song, and one that I don't mind letting find its way unto my mp3 player.
I have to wonder if the title is in reference to the Counting Crows "Rain King" from their album August and Everything After. If that's the case, it's a nice nod a a pretty fantastic song (sorry Cake Sale, but you're no Counting Crows, at least right now) from a true classic.
Again, this is not a bad song, just not on that got me to buy more music from "The Cake Sale."

One of the nicest free downloads I've heard!
Nina Persson's "Black Winged Bird" is lilting and soothing, romantic and bordering on melancholy. The relaxing flow of this song makes it inherently listenable as foreground or background music.
I particularly like the fact that the song relies on Nina's vocal talents and not on overdone electronica or instrumental overkill. The strings and other back-up instruments that complement Persson's voice are spot on.
While this song may not have the pop appeal or driving force it usually takes to gain major recognition, I've had this track on my iPod's playlist ever since it was made available at Amazon.com.
This song isn't what I'd cal mainstream country, folk, or even pop, but is an intruiging mixture of those genres. I don't really like country that well, but I LIKE this song.
Thanks for a nice track Nina and Amazon!
5 stars!

hauntingly lovely
ahhh, the Cardigans, no wonder why. Beautiful song, lovely haunting voice, like Nina Gordon. 2008-05-21

Just lovely
Nina Persson is the lead singer of the Swedish band the Cardigans and her instantly recognizable voice gives this beautiful track a lovely bittersweetness. 2008-05-03

Get it while it's free!
A lovely voice, a great song, and right now it costs nothing. If the RIAA were more interested in releasing great music than suing customers, this song would have already received significant airplay. 2008-02-16
