Avalon

not much of a roxy fan,but this cd seems less distinct then brian ferry's boys and girls.

Roxy Music's Avalon is a remarkable record both in it's songs and the fact that often makes me wonder what would have been next had they continued, but they left on a high note.

This record is steller from the first track to the last and the songs are just beautiful. More Than This, Avalon, Take a Chance With Me and To Turn You On melt mmy heart.

Turn down the lights and listen, it is a special experience.

Every track on this album is excellent. The writing, recording and production put this album in the classic category. Bryan Ferry's voice is consistently amazing.

I downlaoded Avalon to my portable player. Quality is superior to most of the other music I've converted to mp3. And for about $8.00 I'm real happy.

Roxy Music is not for everyone; and for good reason, it's very progressive, even nowadays. Roxy is romantic, smooth, sharp, to the point, obscure, discreet, ambient, catchy, dancy, melodic and very, very English with an international flavor. These guys are talented as a group under the direction of Bryan Ferry, or as soloists with their own projects. Phil Manzanera is perhaps one of the very best guitar players ever. Listen to some of his licks, how restrained and clean they are. Andy McKay is the best sax player I've heard, ever.
That all being said, this is their best album, and their last I believe. The Eno albums were good, but without Eno pulling one way and Ferry the other, the group flourished during the 1970's becoming an international success.
Avalon is the best, followed by Viva (the live album), then Country Life, Stranded, then Siren. The other efforts fall into place after these. To us Yanks, their music still sounds fresh and never dated.
